Some of us love living with colour while others prefer a neutral palette.
Neutrals have been, and continue to be, a very popular palette for the home and for good reason. Many people feel relaxed and comfortable when surrounded by softly balanced colours that create a harmonious and cohesive environment.
The key to neutrals is to layer different shades to create relaxed and refined spaces. Understanding the different combinations and using the right shades in the correct context will achieve a timeless and sophisticated look yet have a very understated effect.
Warm Whites and Neutrals
South facing spaces receive a cooler light and therefore selecting a warmer tone will give a warmer feel to the room. A favourite white that is very popular amongst designers and one which I used throughout our home is Natural White. It is very calming and is one of the lightest of the warm whites.

A very popular white which had a very big run a few years back and continues to be a top choice for homeowners is Dulux's Antique White USA. It's another warm white and plays beautifully against the Vivid White trims.

Cool Whites
Rooms that faces north where the strong afternoon sun shines in call for a cooling white or neutral. The effect is to cool the space and tone down the warmth. These tones add a modern and contemporary edge with their blue/grey undertones and their crispness visually opens up the space.

For the ultimate contemporary space, Vivid White is the perfect choice as it's a pure, clean white. It is extremely crisp and is perfect for creating a modernist and minimalist look.
Warm Neutrals
This stunning hue is Hog Bristle. Its softness lends itself to a clam palette and combines beautifully with timber floorboards.

Haymes has a beautiful range of neutrals classified by hue and extending across the palette. One of their very versatile colours is Coconut Grove. This soft colour gently warms a space and is a lovely backdrop for furniture and greenery.
