Designer Kitchen Trends - 2022

Trends come and go but every now and then we see some "new" trends that end up so popular due to their style and beauty that they become timeless. These designs and styles may have been du jour back in the day but thanks to modern interior design they are having a resurgence. Some are new and are here to stay. Breakfast bar anyone?

  1. Statement metal

Say goodbye to chrome tapware (unless you are strictly Hamptons). Silver chrome has made way for gold, aged brass, matt black and nickel. The beauty of these different metals is that they add a touch of luxury to the kitchen scheme and become a statement themselves.

2. Breakfast Cabinet

Nutritionists have long said that breakfast is the most important meal of the day and so a dedicated breakfast cabinet makes sense. This is a cabinet in your kitchen that solely houses all the items needed to prepare breakfast. From the toaster, coffee machine, kettles, cereals to drawers and shelving for bowls, plates and cutlery, glasses and mugs. Preparing breakfast has never been easier and more orderly.

For the top of the range breakfast cabinets, a fridge drawer is a must. In here is stored the milk, yoghurt, juice, berries, jams even nuts and grains. It's a one stop convenience shop.

3. Natural stone

Of course this isn't a new trend, stone has been around for a very long time however it has had a huge resurgence of late and it's being used in very creative ways.

4. Arches and curves

Arches and curves are everywhere and usually with trends that explode onto the scene and are incorporated into every room of the house, they soon become over saturated and dated. However, I feel this design feature is a bit different. The main aspect being the organic shape and this just may be its saving grace. Hard angles are out. We're craving a softer cocooning effect in our homes.

5. Open shelving

For a while now open shelving has been a no-no in kitchens. All storage was quietly done in the overhead cabinetry. Lately we have been seeing timber, stone, glass and tiled ledges. Open shelving gives a relaxed look to the kitchen and even opens up the space
