Decorating with wallpaper - 5 stylish applications

Do you wish to add flair, colour and style to your walls? Then consider wallpaper, it just may be the perfect solution! Wallpaper is a wonderful opportunity to get creative, have fun and indulge in a little luxury!

Wallpaper has had a revival in recent years and for good reason. It allows you to express your design aesthetic, it supports or complements your colour palette and provides a textural element to the space. This is especially true if a beautiful grasscloth wallpaper is used. Grasscloth is the term used to describe natural fibres on backing paper and includes seagrass, jute, hemp, raffia and more recently, bamboo.

The beauty of wallpaper is that it can range from the subtle to the bold, light to dark or smooth to textured. This allows for a large range of applications and styles.

Non traditional rooms

Typically used in bedrooms, lounges and dining rooms, we are increasingly seeing it used in other non traditional rooms such as kitchens, laundries, hallways and powder rooms. It’s a chance to be adventurous and playful.

Feature wall

If you’re daring, wallpaper the whole room! However if you’re not confident to wallpaper all four walls then using it on a feature wall will still give you the colour and pattern but on a lesser scale.

Unexpected detailing

Another option is to use it on joinery, within the trim of cabinet doors, on the back wall of a bookcase, or as art in a frame. Wallpapering the risers of a staircase adds interest and is eye catching.

Murals

A wallpaper mural can create the wow factor in any space. Showcasing a favourite or nostalgic scene across the wall can be truly impactful for the viewer. A mural can set the scene and mood for the room and is definitely fancy and creative.

Wallpaper as framed art

With the beautiful prints available from good wallpaper designers and suppliers creating framed art is another option to display flair in a space. It allows for flexibility in the smaller scale of the application as well as it provides the option of mixing and matching several prints, patterns and colours.
